I use to want to be a supermodel myself and I looked up to people like Tyra Banks. Now I'm older and wiser and see even though this show was entertaining and it was problematic too. I heard that the creator of Arthur didn't agree with how this topic was handled in this episode. Unfortunately, he had no say in the matter as the company who helped to bring his books to tv cheated him by contractually making it so he had no say in the matter of how they animated his books.

If you watching on certain streaming app, there is a missing episode. Hopefully you don’t skip over that one. Looking back at that show gave me all the reasons why I never cared for modeling. I think Tyra played the game how the industry wanted her to play.

I remember watching this show when I was younger, I liked the photo shoot (at first) but hated the drama and then (quite quickly) I watched it out of boredom then quickly just stopped watching it. So very glad I stopped watching 'cause goodness this was horrific. Great video as always!

I do most of my grocery shopping between sam’s club, trader joes and Walmart and sometimes Giant (sister company of stop & shop in ny) Bj’s wholesale prices are too high. It’s actually cheaper to spend the gas to travel 30 miles to go to sam’s club.

I used to watch this show when I was a little girl, and my mom would be in the room with me hating on it like "oh look at all those anorexic models. They need to eat a sandwich!". Like mom I know you're trying to make me feel better about being fat but you didn't have to shame other ladies to build me up! I felt like I had to secretly watch this show, cause watching this show and watching anything dealing with models, my mother always thin-shamed them. Mom you should have hated this show because of the abuse they're going through, not because they're models.

I used to love this show! But as soon be gotten older, I’m definitely understanding why a lot of ppl find it problematic. I was in a pageant, and it’s a very competitive world. I know the modeling world is even worse…but I also get that in the modeling industry ppl can be very mean and body shame and that’s terrible.

I use to watch this show back then. I’m so disgusted with myself honestly. Smoking mirrors are real! Everybody on that panel was Tyra reflection. People are you push out. So I’m not surprised. Especially me knowing better now. 10:16 🎯🎯🎯

Im mostly white but 1/4 mexican. As a kid i told people i was half mexican because i didnt want to be perceived as white (most of my freinds were black, hispanic asian) when 10 year old me learned about slavery i was distraught. I went home and yold my mom about it and she said, "year our ancestors most likely owned slaves" and i felt like i was immediately racist or something. I got over it though. What does that make me? As a white teen, I see this as true. White guilt exists, I know one of my ancestors was a shitty slave owner who fought in the Confederacy. I hate that. Can't control the past. My partner is latina tho, she is the best partner ever! I go to a mainly black school, ive definitely seen students say racist shit to our bible history teacher (Who is from the Philippines, he is really cool tho). When he made an example of what they are saying back to him, they called it racist even tho it was an example. Regardless, I try my best to be nice and friendly to everyone regardless of race. I may have intrusive thoughts that say racist things but I immediately shut those thoughts down and be disturbed by them (as intrusive thoughts are unwanted thoughts that normally disturb a person). But, just try to treat everyone the same regardless of what they look like!

Yea black people are so oppressed that they have to make up claims of racism because the supply does not meet the demand. Look up the actual crime reports on unarmed police shootings and you will see that if the media actually reported on them then it would blow quite a few white privilege narratives out of the water so they can't let people think about that.

Point out one modern white privilege... I'll wait and have been waiting for years.

The problem a lot of writers these days have is their inability to deploy nuance. These are lessons that kids can learn, and indeed should learn: history has many bleak stories to tell, and many painful lessons to be conveyed so it doesn't happen again, and racism is an ugly thing that is tragically still prevalent, but slapping people in the face with absolutist comments like 'demographic-can't be racist' is *not* how you go about it. There are ways to teach these lessons, but this show ain't it. Anybody can be racist, anybody can have negative presuppositions, which is a topic and a teaching moment that, while powerful and important, blatantly disagreed with the colorism angle they established prior, so I can see why that wasn't the route they went. It's complicated for adults to tackle this stuff, to understand where the lines are, so putting it in a kid's show that tastelessly and recklessly is a... decision for sure.
